Bio: Teddy is a friendly, playful, soft natured, and pleasant dog to have around. He is a healthy senior who needs much more exercise than he is getting. With an owner who could take him for hikes, I believe that he would bond fairly quickly and also lose some of those less flattering pounds he has put on. ----------------------------------------------------------------Teddy responded well to my obedience instruction, he learned fairly quickly, understanding in no time that he was to walk at my side with no pulling on the leash. He was starting to sit in the heel position when I stopped walking, and he held his 'stays' well. Who said 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks?' With soft correction he would give me a 'down' but braced when I worked him onto his side- this is a sign that he is not ready to accept my leadership entirely.
Older dogs can be a real comfort to a person with a quiet lifestyle. I recommend that Teddy undergo a set of four one-hour lessons in obedience training as he has had no formal training in the past. As dogs thrive on new stimuli, training Teddy and taking him to new trails and parks would keep him well balanced for the rest of his days and give him a new lease on life.
We feel that Teddy would do best adopted by someone who will walk him regularly and give him structure. As dogs are creatures of the moment, it wouldn't take long for Teddy to adapt to a loving person or family with or without a companion dog, as long as he is kept busy socializing with lots of dogs and people.
